I recommend skipping the Alfheim part to not start hating whole series afterwards and going straight to SAO 2 - Gun Gale Online, which is, more or less, enjoyable.

Come on, ALO isn't THAT bad. Personally i don't think it's bad at all, it's just painfully average.
GGO on the other hand is quite enjoyable, perhaps even more then SAO as there are no short stories.

Anyone here likes VNs (chinese cartoon porn games)? This semester I read Muv-Luv Alternative, the presumed best VN ever in existence. And holy shit was that damn right, this VN completely outshines everything from my top anime list by a huge margin. Dem feels throughout the whole thing (which is freaking long by the way), coupled with the constant struggle of humanity, the actually amazing character growth that the protagonist experiences, and the interesting political and personal conflicts that arise.

In all, it is a masterpiece that combines parallel universes, the strength of humanity, politics, and lots, lots of feels; it also has a lot of mecha. If you haven't read this I highly recommend you do, but make sure to read Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited first (the first of which is unfortunately stagnant and boring as fuck, whereas the second is decent) in order to get the most out of the experience.

I agree ALO wasn't as good as SAO but it more or less helped explain some things that come up during SAO (like learning more about his sister) I personally feel like it wrapped things up nicely

I also recently finished watching Sword Art Online. So far there has been 5 story arcs.

First arc was great.
Second arc was average.
I really liked the third arc.
Fourth arc was bland.
I liked the fifth arc.

I feel like ALO makes a perfectly fine backdrop. It's when it's more than that that the story suffers. This is why I feel like the fourth arc was the worst. And that's the only one I'd ever recommend skipping. It's good that it's only 3 episodes long.

First Neon Genesis Evangelion, was the first series i ever watched a long long time ago ina galaxy far away.
Vampire Hunter D also a classic and must see, as for others....High School of the Dead and Cowboy Bebop and Attack On Titan!

I recently watched Hellsing (the OVA), and, although I liked the tone and atmosphere of it, I thought it was too safe. Alucard was just too powerful. All of his encounters, except for the final one, were a laugh to him or a dissapointment, literally. The secondary characters were the only ones who struggled, and they struggled only because Alucard would take his time to deal with "the problems" to make the most out of this fun that it was for him.

You probably already knew this but not all visual novels are eroges (most are, however), many which are good get classified as eroge because they have some adult content at all. I was kinda being sarcastic with the chinese cartoon porn games part though. You can check some good ones at vndb.org
