True WoW on linux

#1 » Post by Sneakyrogue » 09 Feb 2016 04:49

I am currently having a bit of trouble logging in to my game on my linux laptop. When I enter my password and username it says "you have been disconnected from the server" when I check the website it says that the server is up. Any ideas what the problem might be and if so, how to fix it.

Hello!

Did you install something recently that might shut down your connection? I can see on logs that you have been able to login before and create/delete characters etc. So with that said, it has worked. Try to see what you have done from the time it did work and until now with settings on computer and other stuff. It's purely a guess though as I do not know fully how well the OS linux co-ops with WoW at all.

I played wow on a linux for a while , didn't have any issues with it , so my guess is something else causes your problem.

I was launching it with wine though , so try downloading it.

I suggest Wine or a Virtual Machine (oracle)

Try running it from a terminal to see if you get any errors when you try connecting:

Code: Select all

$ wine /path/to/wow.exe

I had logged on and played on my PC running windows, not my linux laptop.

I use wine on my computer for things like this but it isn't working very well, does anyone know any other windows emulators?

Just to make sure, you didn't put the $ before the command did you? That's just commonly used to denote a shell command, so in your shell you would just do "wine wow.exe". Sorry if that caused any confusion.

If you can get it running from a terminal, look out for any lines that start with "err:", especially any warnings about missing libraries.

Well, maybe upgrade it with new components, however a laptop is rather annoying to upgrade that way. I guess you would have to buy a new one. Anyhow, this seems to be fixed and solved as you got your answers.
